Correns and the Vallon Sourn
At the gates of Gorge Bagarèdes, on the right bank of the Argens, Correns is a charming Provencal village surrounded by hills and vineyards. First village of France fully certified organic, Correns conducted a global transition in 1997 under the leadership of a mayor then winemaker and agronomist. The village economy as a whole grew around the environmental and biological cultivation or breeding methods.
At the heart of the Var, the first organic village of the country lives in raising chickens and goats, viticulture and beekeeping. The quality of local production is known far beyond the borders of Provence. In particular, the territory of Correns is known for its white wine appellation of Côtes de Provence. The village also houses the only winery in Provence dedicated exclusively to whites.
Alongside the agricultural economy, Correns has developed a global ecological and environmental approach, including the distribution of food from organic and local agriculture in the school canteen, the favoring renewables, or buildings restorations from environmentally friendly materials.
The village organizes every year in the month of August, a large fair bio that brings between 100 and 150 exhibitors. Parallel to the fair, which lasts two days, lectures, films, testimonies and meetings are offered.
Correns enjoys an exceptional setting on Argens houses the center and gardens open on the banks of the river, crossed by the arch of the charming stone bridge. Natural beaches on the river allow children to swim. steep streets and cobbled streets lead to strong Gibron, former abbey residence of the 12th century Provençal Romanesque campanile which dominates the village.
The medieval town can be visited during a walking track lined with numbered explanatory panels. The journey to discover the door to St. Germain harrow 14th century, the neighborhoods of the 18th and 19th centuries, including the baroque church built in the 18th and its remarkable altarpiece.
Between Correns and Chateauvert, the Sourn Valley is one of the most beautiful natural sites of the Var hinterland. Haven of greenery and freshness, the valley offers 4 km of enchanting landscapes around the river Argens. The site is suitable for canoe rides, swimming with family and relax on beautiful beaches shaded, or fishing parties on the green banks. Breeding of wild brown trout, the valley is a nature reserve and an important refuge for biodiversity. Access to the right bank is limited to protect the ecological wealth of the valley. The cliffs along the valley Sourn are for their famous among climbing enthusiasts.
Rock climbing, kayaking, hiking and mountain bike circuits, outdoor activities to do around Correns are legion. The wealth of the valley also discovered through family walks. A shaded parking lot of a wattle roof is fitted near the site. The beaches and climbing sites are then accessed by arrows and a nice marked trail. The shaded path along the river and exudes scents of Provence. It then passes through a flowery meadow dominated by cliffs backdrop. The wild beach of the Fairy Cave surprises with its enchanting setting. In the undergrowth, a walkway bridge protects the plants at the walkers pass. It leads to the beach of the valley, in a sunny and partly shaded area. Sand and pebbles, it invites relaxation and refreshing swimming.
